Newly engaged? Time to book your wedding venue…..

Engaged this new year? Congratulations! If your hopelessly romantic other half got down on one knee this Christmas or new year you will be keen as mustard to start making some wedding plans. Here is our quick guide to the first things you need to think about....

  1. Book a venue! You can’t plan anything else until you have a wedding venue booked and your date confirmed. As the Cotswolds newest wedding venue, we have good availability for this season but venues get booked up well in advance. Make sure you check availability before sending out your save the date cards! If you are having a church wedding, followed by a reception at a wedding venue, don’t forget to liaise with the church regarding dates. If you are opting for a civil ceremony, you will need to contact Gloucestershire Registration Services to book a registrar. Once you have booked a provisional date with your venue, check that a registrar is available at the time you are hoping for.
  2. Make some bridal shop appointments – so this is the bit you’ve really been waiting for! Seeing yourself wearing a wedding dress for the first time will really make this amazing adventure seem real! Whether you choose a ready to wear dress, or bespoke couture you might be surprised at how long it takes to make sure your dress is perfect for you. Bridal shops normally say they need a minimum of six months from your first appointment to your wedding day, but the longer you can give them the better for fittings and alterations. Oh, and don’t forget your beautiful bridesmaids and page boys will need some stunning little numbers too…
  3. Think flowers, photos, cakes, invitations and music – now the real fun begins! If lots of your friends have got married recently you might have some ideas about which suppliers you would like to use. If not, you might be left feeling a bit daunted and wondering where to start. Pinterest and Instagram are great places to look for inspiration. You will soon find the styles you like and will work at the wedding venue you have chosen, then you can start contacting suppliers and checking their availability for your wedding day.
  4. Relax! We know just how stressful planning a wedding is, which is why here at Lapstone Barn our in-house wedding planners will guide you through the process to make sure you have the perfect wedding day – your wedding, your way. Don’t lose sight of the fact that your wedding day is just one day – it absolutely flies by so try and enjoy the planning and build up to your big day too!
