10 key wedding trends for 2025
1. Outdoor weddings on the lawn
When you close your eyes and imagine a dream wedding, this must be it! Blue skies and sunshine as you say your vows in front of guests against a backdrop of rolling green countryside – no wonder this is a key wedding trend for 2025. While we can’t guarantee the weather, we can guarantee that couples can enjoy their wedding ceremony outdoors on Lapstone Barn’s beautiful green lawn if they wish! In fact, we’re having our very first outdoor lawn wedding this month – keep an eye on the website for all the pictures.
2. Raw wedding footage
Iphones and insta reels have their place, but we are seeing a return to old school wedding photography. Think traditional film cameras and handheld camcorders. Why do couples love this old-fashioned footage? There’s a sense of timelessness in the grainy prints and they can look superb printed in black and white. Or try polaroid film for a fun way to capture the day.
3. Technology trends
Despite a return to analogue cameras, we can expect to see more digital integrations in other areas for weddings in 2025. Online invitations, wedding websites and apps allow guests to RSVP, view itineraries and explore the venue digitally. With live-stream technology, ceremonies can be shown across the globe, allowing guests to participate virtually. And interactive photo booths are also a growing 2025 wedding trend, printing digital photos on the spot that guests can take home as mementos.
4. Destination weddings
Hosting your family and friends at an exclusive venue in a beautiful location – that tops our 2025 weddings trends chart! It may be tempting to think of heading to far-flung places, but the Cotswolds also makes for the ideal destination wedding. And at Lapstone Barn, you can sleep up to 26 guests in our stunning on-site accommodation, from our traditional Cotswold stone Farmhouse and Cottage to our recently converted Stables.
5. Eco friendly weddings
Sustainable weddings are still one of the biggest wedding trends of 2025. As well as opting for sustainable wedding dresses and choosing local produce and suppliers, couples are trying to reduce their environmental impact in other areas too. From recyclable wedding invitations (or digital ones as highlighted above) to reusable decor, how to reduce waste at weddings is a big theme.
6. Micro weddings
The micro wedding trend signals a shift towards smaller, more laid-back celebrations and also ties in with 2025’s sustainable wedding trend: fewer guests means fewer resources are needed. But it’s not all about cost-saving – by reducing the guest list, couples can focus on creating an exclusive and intimate experience, prioritising quality over quantity. Lapstone Barn’s beautiful private courtyard and stunning inside spaces offer the perfect setting for intimate celebrations.
7. Out of season weddings
Couples often ask us what is the best month to get married in 2025, and we say all of them! Spring and summer weddings will always be popular but we are seeing a rise in requests for weddings that are in the shoulder season too. Why is November a good month to get married, you may ask? For a start it costs less than at other times of the year, but more importantly, you’ll be able to have your pick of wedding venues and suppliers. Plus, none of your guests will be away on their summer holidays!
8. Fashion forward bridal outfits
If you’re wondering ‘what is the trend for wedding dresses in 2025?’, you may be pleased to know that anything goes! Many brides are now departing from traditional bridal styles and embracing more daring looks. Whether that’s a three-piece suit – a key look at inclusive weddings – an avant-garde outfit from your favourite designer or any colour other than ivory, individuality is the key to wedding dressing in 2025.
9. Banquet-style dining
At Lapstone Barn you can have your seating arrangements however you choose but we have definitely seen a trend towards long banquet-style tables for wedding breakfasts. With guests seated opposite each other, rectangular tables offer a more relaxed feel and give guests the chance to speak to lots of different people together. They can be dressed up with floral centrepieces, or left plain for a more rustic reception look. We have to admit, long trestle tables look fantastic in our 18th-century Cotswold barn wedding venue…
10. Personalised wedding favours
Research ‘what are common wedding traditions’ and wedding favours will come top of the list. However, with sustainability at the forefront of many people’s minds, we’ve noticed a shift in what wedding favours couples choose to give to their guests. Gone are the throwaway items and in their place we’re seeing wedding favours that can be taken home and used, eaten or even drunk! We’ve also seen a rise in personalised wedding favours, from hand-written notes to home-baked cookies and handmade candles – you can see more personalised wedding favour ideas in our blog.
