What makes a wedding truly sustainable in 2025?

Did you know that 98% of couples consider sustainability as a key factor when planning their wedding? From the type of paper you use for your save the dates to the blooms you feature in your bouquet, there’s plenty of ways to make your wedding more eco-friendly this year. But with ‘greenwashing’ rife and trends evolving fast, what does a truly sustainable wedding actually look like in 2025? In today’s blog, we take a closer look at the latest sustainable wedding ideas, and share how you can bring them to life at our charming Cotswold stone barn wedding venue.

Eco-friendly flower arrangements

Sustainable flower arrangements are all the rage in 2025. Couples are waving goodbye to imported blooms and floral foam, and welcoming in arrangements that celebrate seasonality and local craftsmanship. Think British-grown, pesticide-free flowers from regenerative farms, natural greenery foraged from nearby woodlands, and potted plants or herbs that can be replanted after the day.

At Lapstone Barn, we recommend some fantastic local florists who specialise in creating seasonal designs using British-grown flowers and natural greenery, including Sally Gill Flowers and Aquaflorist. We can help you find your dream wedding flowers that are as kind to the environment as they are beautiful.

Sustainable fashion that breaks tradition

Couples are now making more mindful choices when it comes to their wedding attire. Many of our 2025 brides and grooms are opting to rent gowns and suits from rental platforms like Something Borrowed and By Rotation, which are helping to make designer fashion pieces more accessible. Pre-loved outfits are also a big thing this year, which gives wedding dresses and suits a second lease of life while reducing the demand for new production.

Zero-waste decor

In 2025, we’re seeing a huge shift towards quality over quantity when it comes to wedding decor. Couples are now favouring reusable and hireable elements that create maximum impact with minimal waste.

Many couples choose to hire statement pieces that perfectly fit the vibe of their wedding venues, such as vintage rugs, ornate candleholders, and upholstered furniture. Fabric banners and potted trees also feature heavily in our ceremonies here, which you can easily replant or gift after the big day. We can also recommend local suppliers for digital stationery and sustainable signage to ensure that every little detail leaves no trace.

Conscious menu choices

The food and drink your guests consume can have a huge impact on the environment. That’s why lots of couples are now choosing menus that highlight local, seasonal ingredients, which helps to reduce food miles and cut down on unnecessary waste.

Our in-house catering team at Lapstone Barn offers seasonal menus that can be easily mixed and matched to reflect your unique tastes. From canapes to sharing platters to traditional three-course dining, every mouthful is lovingly sourced, where possible, from local farmers and producers that use sustainable techniques.

Thoughtful favours and gifts

Couples are now moving away from disposable wedding favours and instead choosing meaningful, eco-friendly gifts that leave a lasting impression on their guests. Some of the most popular sustainable wedding favours we’ve seen this year include wildflower seed packets, tiny potted herbs, and handmade soaps from local artisans.

Many couples are also choosing to forgo physical favours entirely and are instead donating to charities that are close to their hearts. This helps to not only reduce waste but also allows you to give back to an important cause that’s much bigger than your wedding day.
